Canadian National Site Licensing Project (CNSLP) - Core
Online Collections
This nation-wide research library initiative was undertaken to provide
the academic community with desktop access to scholarly journals and research databases, emphasizing science, health, engineering
and environmental content. Initially a three-year pilot project (2001-2004), CNSLP was jointly funded through an award from the
Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and contributions from 64 participating
institutions of which Concordia is one.
In 2004, CNSLP became the Canadian Research
Knowledge Network (CRKN), an incorporated not-for-profit partnership of Canadian universities dedicated to
expanding access to scholarly research in digital formats.
The Core Online Collections, first negotiated in 2001, include:
- ScienceDirect - Elsevier
The ScienceDirect collection includes most Elsevier ScienceDirect journals - exclusions are
those titles identified with the white icon indicating "non-subscribed" as well as third-party publisher
journals from 1995 onward. In addition, there are extensive backfiles for journals in
some subjects. ScienceDirect also includes the approximately 200 online journals formerly available
via Academic Press/IDEAL.
- Web of Science (Institute for Scientific Information - ISI)
Offers Web access to the Science Citation Index, the Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts &
Humanities Citation Index from 1989 onward.
- American Chemical Society (ACS) Journals and
Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Journals
Access to all ACS Web editions and to most RSC electronic journals.
- Institute of Physics (IOP) Journals
The complete collection of 48 IOP journals is available and searchable.
- SpringerLink - Springer-Verlag Journals
The CNSLP agreement provides access to over 1,300 full text Springer-Verlag
journals, covering disciplines in science, technology, health,
engineering, environment, economics and law.
- MathSciNet - American Mathematical Society
A database of reviews, abstracts and bibliographic information of the mathematical sciences literature.
Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) - SSH &
STM Content Expansion
In 2005, CRKN launched a major content
expansion project with the goals to secure a critical mass of social
sciences and humanities (SSH) scholarly content in digital formats, and
to add incrementally to the science/technology/medical
(STM)
scholarly content already available through CRKN. As a result of this initiative,
Concordia Libraries purchased/subscribed to these resources:
Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) -
Second Round of SSH Expansion
In 2006, CRKN undertook a second content expansion specifically in the social sciences and humanities
(SSH) domains. As a
result of this new project, Concordia Libraries have purchased/subscribed to the
following
resources:
Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) - Digital Content Initiative (DCI) for the Human and Social Sciences Project
Thanks to a joint $47 million investment by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), eight provinces and 67 universities, researchers, scholars and
students in Canadian universities have desktop access to a rich digital collection of scholarly content, ranging from books, letters and
historical documents to music scores, maps, artworks and visual materials.
In 2008, CRKN secured national purchase and license agreements with international and Canadian scholarly publishers for 14 products to provide access to thousands of electronic journals, e-books,
