Library services and resources during COVID-19

Facilities

The Library is providing current students with access to study space in both Webster and Vanier libraries with the Library Study Space Booking service. Study space must be reserved in advance. Seating is limited at this time to 125 at Webster Library and 50 at Vanier Library.

Library study space booking is intended as an emergency service for those without the conditions for silent study at home. Only seating for individual study is available at this time.


Services

We continue to work to support your studies, teaching and research during this time. Most of the 120 members of the Library team are working remotely. Since June, a team of staff and librarians has been working in the libraries to fulfill thousands of requests to retrieve items from the physical collection for contactless pickup and to digitize items for course reserves or to deliver by email.

Physical collections

Library stacks are currently closed. However, if you need an article, chapter, or front/back matter of a book, we can send you a PDF via email with the Article/Chapter Scan & Deliver service.

If you need books or other physical items from the collection, you can make a request through the Contactless Book Pickup service.


Course reserves

The course reserves rooms are currently closed. Items from the course reserves collection cannot be borrowed at this time. The online course reserves system remains available 24/7.

Many professors have posted online readings in the course reserves system through the Library. The Library ensures copyright compliance as part of this service. Many other professors have adopted open textbooks to assist their students during these challenging times.

FAQ

You are now able to return your books and other borrowed material to the Library. See more about returning items.

All fines will be waived until September 30. Note that returned items are quarantined for 3 days, subsequently a return will not immediately be reflected in your library account, and no fines are incurred during this period.

One exception to the above is for cases where no arrangement is made for the return of equipment. In these cases, replacement costs will be applied to library user accounts.

If you only need an article, book chapter, or the front/back matter of a book, you can use the Article/Chapter Scan & Deliver service to receive a PDF via email. If you need the physical item, make a request through the Contactless Book Pickup service.

Yes, Interlibrary Loans services resumed on September 14, 2020.

DPrint machines are not available in the Webster or Vanier Library; however, two DPrint machines are available to students. One DPrint machine is located on the downtown (SGW) campus in LB-119 near the Mackay Street entrance. The other is located on the Loyola campus in the VL-100 atrium.

There is currently no access to on-site library equipment such as book scanners or flatbed scanners.
