It also provides access to Palmer's Index to the Times (1790-1905), the full text of which is available on Times Digital Archive. ICPSR is a statistical data repository covering fields such as sociology, political science, economics, demography, education, child care, health care, crime, minority populations, aging, terrorism, substance abuse, mental health, public policy, and international relations. The collection focuses on U.S. issues but also includes several datasets that deal with international and Canadian topics. The data is presented in a raw format which means that statistical analysis software such as SPSS or SAS is needed to interpret it.

Please note: users must create a MyData account on the ICPSR site in order to access data. The account must be created on a computer connected to Concordia’s network, or remotely through Concordia’s VPN service.

CanVec is a multi-source product coming mainly from the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB), the GeoBase initiative (www.geobase.ca) and the data update using Landsat 7 imagery coverage. CanVec product contains more than 90 topographic entities thematically organized into 11 distribution themes: Administrative Boundaries, Buildings and Structures, Energy, Hydrography, Industrial and Commercial Areas, Places of Interest, Relief and Landforms, Toponymy, Transportation, Vegetation and Water Saturated Soils. The CanVec product is free and is distributed via GeoGratis portal in output file formats GML (Geography Markup Language) and SHAPE (ArcGIS products).

Equinox to replace IDLS and Sherlock

Equinox provides a wide range of statistical data, mostly from Statistics Canada. Data is available in aggregated format (ready to use data tables) as well as unaggregated format (microdata). Researchers can download complete datasets or make custom extractions of specific variables. Extensive data from recent Canadian censuses as well as most datasets from the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) are available through Equinox.

Equinox replaces Sherlock and IDLS, which are no longer being updated. Users of IDLS will find that their file request history, PIN, and other administrative database information have been migrated from IDLS to Equinox.
