About MetaFind
What is MetaFind?
MetaFind enables you to search multiple selected library resources simultaneously (library catalogues, article databases, electronic journals) and returns a single list of results that you can browse and explore.
How MetaFind works

When should I use MetaFind?
MetaFind is useful when you:
- don't know where to start or which database to search
- want to get an overview of the type of information available
- want to determine which database(s) might be best for your topic
- want to do a relatively quick and simple search
- want to discover information that might otherwise have been overlooked
- want to locate articles on an obscure topic or subject
- want to retrieve an article you already have but can't remember where you found it
MetaFind offers an efficient and effective way to discover relevant resources and information.
Limitations of MetaFind
MetaFind is a new service currently in beta. MetaFind searches only a selection of databases and library catalogues, however, additional ones will be added progressively. Enhancements and improvements are continually being implemented.
Keep in mind that MetaFind:
- does not search everything (only a selection of library resources)
- cannot utilize an individual database's advanced search capabilities, including thesauri and indexing
- cannot, in many cases, perform effective subject searches
- cannot use common limit options (document type, date range, etc.)
- is not intended as a substitute for the sophisticated search functionality of an individual database
MetaFind shouldn't be used when you are conducting advanced research. For best results, it is highly recommended to search in different databases separately.
