- Canadian Council on Social
Development
- CCSD is a non profit organization whose mission is to "develop
and promote progressive social policies inspired by social justice,
equality and the empowerment of individuals and communities." Under
the section of "Research", you will find links to various types of
documents and statistics on poverty, welfare and Income
Inequality. In the "Links" section, you will find a
comprehensive list of Canadian and U.S. resources dealing with
social policy available on the internet.

Canadian Health Network
- "CHN is a national, non-profit, bilingual web-based health
information service. CHN's goal is to help Canadians find the
information they're looking for on how to stay healthy and prevent
disease." The information is provided by Health Canada,
national and provincial non-profit organizations, universities,
hospitals, libraries and community organizations. The site offers
feature articles, information on societal health issues such as
violence prevention, and links to key online resources.

Research: Quebec
- This comprehensive website provides links to services,
associations, reports on social policies for the province of
Quebec. You will find Government information and statistics as well
as publications from trade associations in Quebec. Site is in
French and English, however, some reports are available only in
French.

- "The Grassroots Social Science Search Web lets you explore
social work areas such as practice, values and ethics, cultural and
ethnic diversity, social and economic justice, spirituality and
alternative therapies, etc."

- This site provides links to social work and social services
sites on the internet. A detailed subject index is provided,
ranging from topics such as abuse and violence, parenting, and
women's issues. The list of resources covers various issues
like health, disabilities, family crisis, illnesses and
therapies.

- "This website became a major portal for the online Social Work
community in providing Internet related services to social workers

feature." This site is highly recommended as a search engine.

information." [They] " provide access to print and electronic publications, websites, and online
databases covering a wide range of topics from prevention to permanency,
including child welfare, child abuse and neglect, adoption, search and reunion,
and much more."

- "A guide to Social Work, Foster Parent, Adoption and other
Child Welfare related resources. The site includes Free
Mailing List, Chat Room and Daily Child Welfare News Stand."

Teen Center
- Very good and well designed site that features information on
teens and parents. It's focus is on adolescents, the issues that
they face and have questions about. These issues are broken up into
different sections: relationships, sexuality, food and fitness,
feelings, school, and much more.

- AgeInfo
- "AgeInfo is an information service about old age and
ageing provided by the Library and Information Service of the
Centre for Policy on Ageing." We don't have access to their
complete database, but students can use this resource to check
other databases online, as well as finding links to senior and
gerontology sites.

Association
- A fact sheet created by the Association that provides a list of
publications, statistics and pamphlets available free on the
internet concerning the effects of the disease on the patient, the
caregivers and society.

Information Database
- "CHID is a bibliographic database produced by health-related
agencies of the Federal Government. This database provides titles,
abstracts, and availability information for health information and
health education resources."

Health
- "ASH works by
formulating the best information and analysis of the tobacco
problem and credible responses, then communicates that to the
public, opinion-formers and decision-makers in order to generate
the public and political impetus for the measures that will reduce

- This site, created by the Family Violence Prevention Fund, is
committed to fighting all forms of domestic abuse against men,
women and children. The site includes information on the
various programs and campaigns available to ending family violence,
where to get help, press releases, and a free online newsletter
published bi-annually.

- Family Facts: Social Science Research on Family, Society & Religion
- Produced by a U.S. conservative group called the Heritage
Foundation, this database "highlights social science research
regarding the relationship between family structure and religion
and the well-being of men, women, children, and society. The
Database currently contains over 2,000 empirical findings drawn
from more than 1,250 peer-reviewed journal articles published
throughout the past 20 years."

- "Family Service Canada prepares and distributes resources
designed to assist and strengthen people in their relationships, in
critical times and day-to-day living. The documents are directed
toward a variety of users: parents, children, adult children,

can be found by clicking on online
resources.

- A national resource centre for all Canadians seeking
information about violence within the family and looking for new
resources being used to address it. By sharing the latest research
findings and information on all aspects of prevention, protection
and treatment, the Clearinghouse seeks to help Canadian communities
work toward the eventual elimination of all forms of family
violence.

- "The world's largest database on reproductive health, provides
more than 300,000 citations with abstracts to scientific articles,
reports, books, and unpublished reports in the field of population,
family planning, and related health issues." Certain journals
are available free online while others need to be searched in CLUES
under "Journal Title". NOTE: Academic articles are identified
as "Peer Reviewed".

- Free access to a wide variety of publications devoted to family
issues. Here you will find links to many topics, themes, reports,
statistics as well as access to full text articles in
Transition magazine.

Health
- A free online encyclopedia of mental health which was created
by a Canadian psychiatrist. Find what you need to know about common
disorders, and it's diagnosis. Also has a list of research links to
online magazine articles and books.

- Medlineplus
- "MedlinePlus has extensive information from the National
Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases
and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a
medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, extensive
information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health
information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical
trials." Updated daily and ad-free.

- NAMI is a self-help, support and advocacy group whose members
include mental health professionals, families and friends of people
with severe mental illnesses. Their aim is to improve the
lives of those suffering from mental illnesses, support each other
and to educate the public. Online discussion groups and links to
other web resources can be found at this site.

- "The National Association of School Psychologists in Bethesda,
Maryland has established this site to provide information to school
guidance counselors and psychologists. Online includes hundreds of
excellent links to professional and research organizations."

this site is an excellent source of information on teamwork,
leadership and organizational design.

- KISISS is a website dedicated to the sexual health information needs of college students. The Kinsey Institute
at Indiana University promotes interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of
human sexuality, gender, and reproduction.

The National Coalition for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Youth. In addition to news items,
it includes resources for making schools safe and supportive, online brochures, a library with the latest
information, and links to other educational resources.
