Chemistry of Antidepressants
General Dictionaries and Encyclopedias
- Encyclopedia Britannica
- Using the search term "antidepressant" will retrieve the article "Antidepressants". This article provides a brief over view of the different classes of antidepressants. They are hyperlinked within the article allowing you to investigate the different classes individually.
- Oxford Reference Online
- Search "Antidepressants" in the search box on the left hand side of the screen. Oxford Reference Online will retrieve a short definition for antidepressant. It also includes hyperlinks to the different classes of antidepressants in the entries.
- Gale Virtual Reference Library:
- Search "Antidepressant*" in the Document title field will return five results. Two results will be specific to tricyclic and SSRI class antidepressants. You may also want to run a Document title field search for "Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors" to retrieve articles on the third class of antidepressants.
Chemical Encyclopedias
- Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry (online):
- Underneath the search box in the top right corner, hit the link that says, "Search this book". In the new search box that appears on the screen type, "Antidepressants" and hit search. Select the article called, "Psychopharmacological Agents". The third section of this article concerns antidepressants. There is a brief description of the different classes of antidepressants and figures to show the synthesis reaction for a number of specific antidepressants.
- Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology (online):
- Underneath the search box in the top right corner, hit the link that says, "Search this book". In the new search box that appears on the screen type, "Antidepressants" and hit search. Select the article called, "Psychopharmacological Agents" The second section of the article deals with the history, current state and future of antipressants. It also includes a list of available antidepressants with links to references in PubMed.

- You can do a keyword search for "Antidepressant*". Some documents will also be placed on reserve.

- Drug Product Database
- The Drug Product Database contains information on all drugs that are approved for use in Canada. It is searchable by Drug Identification Name, Product Name or Active Ingredient. Many records have PDF copies of Product Monographs which are documents that tell you product information, clinical use information, the effect of the body, clinical, etc. The Product Monographs are specific to a brand of medication, e.g. Prozac, Paxil or Zoloft, as oppose to different classes of antidepressants.

- A brief description of antidepressants, along with links to many web resources on antidepressants.

- Underneath the search box in the top right corner, hit the link that says, "Search this book". In the new search box that appears on the screen type, "Acid Rain" and hit search.
- Encyclopedia of Ecology:
- In the "All Fields" box, search "Acid Rain." Click on the article, "Ecological Effects of Acidic Deposition." This article provides a description of the effect of acidification on forest soils, trees and aquatic ecosystems.

- Underneath the search box in the top right corner, hit the link that says, "Search this book". In the new search box that appears on the screen type, "Acid Rain" and hit search. Select the article called, "Acid Deposition: Sources and Effects."
