Career Discovery and Job Descriptions
- Careers in Finance
This site allows you to explore different careers available to you in the field of Finance. For each career path,
you will find an overview, along with skill requirements, background reading and links to more resources.
- Career Cruising
A selection of tools to help students plan their future and choose a career.
Contains occupation profiles including career advice from those in the field, information on study programs and statistical data.
To search for careers in finance, simply login, switch the interface to English, and click on the Careers tab that appears at the top of the page.
To access this resource remotely, you need to be a member of the Grande Bibliotheque. Registration is free for Quebec residents and can be requested online.
- National Occupational Classification
The NOC is the nationally accepted reference on occupations in Canada. It organizes approximately 30,000 job titles into 520 occupational group descriptions.
To browse for descriptions, select "index of titles" from the drop down menu, and then "alphabetical" as your search method to get a complete list of occupations.
- FINS Sector Index
Use FINS (Dow Jones) to help guide you through the finance job market and launch your career.
This link will provide an overview for sectors within Finance and Accounting, current trends and what you need to do to get a job in the field.
- Job Futures - Quebec
Get detailed job descriptions on many areas of business and finance. This includes information on job requirements, training, trends, outlook and professional

SEDAR is the electronic filing system for the disclosure documents of public companies and mutual funds across Canada.
Get access to company annual reports and statements for free. For US public companies, please visit EDGAR.
- D&B Million Dollar Database
Directory of private and public Canadian companies, with company size, corporate structure and contact information available for each company. This database also lets you to build your own list
of companies.
- Standard and Poor's NetAdvantage
US and Canadian company records and financial statements. S&P also provides detailed industry analysis for each major sector, reports that are updated twice a year.
- FP Advisor
Data on all Canadian public companies, as well as a growing list of Canadian private companies. To generate a list of companies, click on the "Corporate Surveys" link within FP Advisor.
- Canadian Business Resource
Profiles of over 6,000 Canadian companies that includes historical and current information. In addition, CBR also has executive and board member
profiles as well as their contact information.

Professional Associations
- CFA Institute and CFA Montreal
A global, non-profit association of investment professionals that awards the CFA and CIPM designations.
They also promote ethical standards within the profession and offer a range of educational opportunities online.
CFA Montreal the local chapter also sponsors activities and educational opportunities in the area. In addition,
members of CFA Montreal have access to job postings that focuses on the local financial community.
- Canadian Association of Financial Institutions in Insurance
This association provides helpful information for those interested in a career in insurance. Be sure to visit their sites of interest page for links to more insurance-related industry sites and journals.
- Canadian Securities Institute
CSI offers training courses that correspond to your career interests and goals in finance. Find information about which course/certification is right for you.
