Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
NIAID is a major component of the National Institutes of Health,
which is the principal biomedical research agency of the

UNAIDS is the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS
(UNAIDS). Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it strives to
maximize the United Nations's efficiency and impact in the

resources of six organizations. UNAIDS is co-sponsored by
the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations HIV
and Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations
Population Fund (UNFPA),
the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO),
the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank.

"Among its responsibilities, ONAP works closely with the
Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, which provides
essential input into our efforts. ONAP also created and

WHO Initiative on
HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections
(HSI)
Created by the Director-General of the World Health
Organization (WHO) on 1 November 1995 to liaise with the
Joint United Nations
Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) which became
operational on 1 January 1996 with the disestablishment
as of 31 December 1995 of WHO's Global Programme on AIDS
(GPA).
