CLUES

CLUES lists plays by title and author. Monologues can be searched by keyword or subject. Anthologies of plays can be searched by subject, e.g. Canadian drama 20th Century or English drama 19th Century

Alexander Street Press

Concordia Libraries subscribe to the Alexander Street Press Core Collections, which include full-text drama collections:

Literature Online (LION)

LION contains about 350,000 literary works, including:
  • English drama from 1280 to 1901.
  • American drama from 1715 to 1900.
  • Irish Drama from 1611 to 1914.
  • Scottish drama from 1503 to 1916.
  • Includes all 38 audio plays in the Arkangel Shakespeare collection -- listed under Multimedia

Early English Books Online (EEBO)

EEBO is a full-text and full-image database of books printed in the British Isles, British America, and other countries from 1475 to 1700. The fulltext is not searchable in Concordia Libraries' version. The database is not complete: digitization will continue for 5-10 years.

Women Writers Online (WWO)

Women Writers Online consists of electronic texts of works in English, or in English translation, from Brown University's Women Writers Project, covering the period from 1400 to 1850. Includes access to Renaissance Women Online. The texts can be browsed or searched by keywords.

InteLex Past Masters

InteLex Past Masters includes the Women Writers collection, which contains not only the correspondence and journals, but also the primary works (especially drama) of important women writers in the English Language.

Theatre in Video

Created by Alexander Street Press Theatre in Video, covers a wide range of 20th century theatre history, featuring original stage productions, captured and recorded while performed for a live theatre audience. When complete, Theatre in Video will contain more than 350 full-length plays and documentaries.

Play Index

Play Index provides citations and descriptive annotations to plays written or translated into English and published individually or in collections from 1949 to the present. Provides links to some full text plays available on the Internet.
  • Search for the title or author of a play.
  • In the set of results, click on Full Display.
  • Click on Find this play in a book.
  • Search CLUES by the title of the book to see if Concordia Libraries have the book.

Inter-Play

Inter-Play is an online index to plays in collections, anthologies, and periodicals in a variety of languages. Separately-published plays are not included. It contains approximately 19,000 citations to plays. The sources indexed range from the late 19th century through the current year.
  • Search for the title or author of a play.
  • In the set of results, look for the source title, abbreviated so:.
  • Search CLUES by the title of the source to see if Concordia Libraries have it.

Humanities Abstracts

Humanities Abstracts provides citations to literary works published in periodicals. To find citations to plays, search for drama and change the drop-down menu to Document Type. This can be combined with other searches, such as author or title.
  • Humanities Abstracts also provides references to articles, book reviews and performance reviews in more than 400 journals, covering humanities disciplines, including classical studies, and performing arts. References begin in 1984 and abstracts are included from 1994.
