Reference Collection

The Libraries' extensive Reference collection consists primarily of:

  • language and subject dictionaries and encyclopedias
  • atlases
  • business and other types of directories
  • statistical sources
  • yearbooks and almanacs
  • handbooks and manuals
  • bibliographies
  • indexes and databases

These materials are located in the area surrounding the Reference Desk, in call number order, beginning with the designation REF or INDEX. Those on microfiche are kept in cabinets in the Reference area.

Reference materials do not circulate and are meant to be consulted in the library.

Information sources useful for each subject can be found in the Research Guides by Subject.

Many reference materials, especially periodical indexes, are also available as searchable databases.

We also maintain a listing of Online Reference sources that you may find useful.

Reference & Research Assistance is available to help you navigate the world of information resources.
