You are expected to be self-directed in your use of the laptops. It is assumed that you will be familiar with the Windows platform and with the MS Office suite.

Hardware or software problems should be directed to the Circulation Desk at either library.

Help with the use of library resources is available at the Reference Desk.

Can I plug in the laptop?

Yes. The laptops are loaned with a power adapter.

PLEASE NOTE - Do not attempt to plug in a laptop with your own power adapter as this will damage the battery and the laptop.

How do I check on the battery?

You can check the battery power meter by double-clicking on the blue and red battery icon in the taskbar (bottom right of your screen).

The battery power meter shows you:

  • the current power source

How do I print and save files?

Printing

The specific steps involved in printing a document will vary depending on what program you are using.

All print jobs will be sent by default to the black and white network printer. Printers are located:

  • At the Vanier Library - two B&W printers on the 1st floor (Reference area) and one B&W and one colour printer on the 2nd floor
  • At the Webster Library - two B&W printers on the 2nd floor (Reference area) and one B&W and one colour printer on the 3rd floor (Periodicals & Media Services area)

Print jobs sent from a library laptop will be identified in the printer queue as "laptop#" (# being the number of the laptop) and not your Concordia NetName

Printing requires a Concordia University debit cards and costs 6 cents (B&W) or 50 cents (colour)

Saving
  • Bring a USB key, CD or DVD to save your files or database search results. You can also temporarily save files in the default My Documents folder. You will be prompted to delete any files residing in that folder when you shut down or log off the laptop.
  • Saving files on anything but removable media (CD, DVD or USB) or the My Documents folder is prohibited.
