Where can I use Word?

Almost all library computers have the full Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access). The only exceptions are "CLUES only" machines and those labelled "No Internet".

What keyboard languages are available?

Almost all library workstations offer the following language choices: English (Canada & U.S.), French (Canada), Arabic, Chinese, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Russian, Spanish. To select a particular language, click on the icon in the bottom right corner of your taskbar:

Can I use my own laptop in the library?

Where can I use a colour printer?

There is a colour printer on the 3rd floor of the Webster Library and on the 2nd floor of the Vanier Library. It costs 50 cents per page to print in colour. For more information, see our page on Printing, Scanning and Software.

Where can I scan an image?

You can scan images in the following areas:

Webster Library
  • 3 scanning stations (3rd floor)
Vanier Library
  • 2 scanning stations (2nd floor)

Scanning stations have:

  • Windows XP SP3
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Microsoft Office 2007
  • CD Burner XP
  • Adobe Photoshop CS5
  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
  • Epson Scan
  • jZip

  • At the 3 scanning stations on the 3rd floor

  • At the 2 scanning stations on the 2nd floor

How do I remove my USB key safely?

In order to safely remove your USB memory key on library computers, do the following:

  • Left click once on the icon in the taskbar that represents the USB drive (see image below - the one that has a green arrow on top)

  • A message to stop or safely remove USB Mass Storage Device will appear immediately to the left of your mouse pointer. Click once directly on top of this message.
  • A message saying it is safe to remove the memory key will appear. You can now safely remove your USB memory key without loss of data. If you get a message saying "try stopping the device later", close all your files and then remove the key.

Where can I buy a blank CD or DVD?

Vending machines are available in the Reference area; CDs and DVDs may be purchased for 75 cents.

You can save to CD in the following areas:
