Library Information for Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students of Canadian Universities

Membership/Privilege Card

Faculty, staff and full-time or part-time graduate students are eligible for reciprocal borrowing privileges at participating Canadian university libraries. Upon presentation of the introduction card issued at your home institution and a valid personal identification, you will receive a Concordia University Library Privilege Card. The Concordia University Library Privilege Card is valid until September 30th following the date of issue.

Circulation Services

Concordia University Library Privilege Card holders, upon presentation of their card and valid personal identification, can borrow books and other materials that circulate from the Libraries. Some material, such as periodicals and Reference material, does not circulate. Most circulating material can be borrowed at the Circulation Desk or at a self-checkout machine.

  • The Concordia University Library Privilege Card is required for borrowing.
  • Most circulating material can be borrowed at the Circulation Desk or at a self-checkout machine (you will need a Library PIN).
  • Borrowed items can be renewed unless requested by another user.

  • Renewals are not accepted by e-mail or telephone.
  • Overdue items are subject to fines.
  • You will receive email reminders when your items are due or when someone else has requested it. To verify which email address the Library is using check MyCLUES.

Reference & Research Assistance

Reference & Research Assistance is offered on a priority basis to Concordia's primary constituency, that is, currently enrolled Concordia University students, faculty and staff. Reference assistance is provided to other users as time permits.

Access to Computers and Online Resources

Concordia University Library Privilege Card holders may apply in person at the Vanier or Webster Circulation Desk during service hours for a guest account to use library computers.

The guest account permits access outside of peak hours but only until midnight of the day the account was issued:

  • Fall and Winter Semesters
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:30am to 11am; 9pm to closing
    • Friday: 8:30am to 11am; 6pm to closing
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10am to closing
  • Spring and Summer Semesters

Please note - these hours are subject to change.

'CLUES only' computers as well as selected computers in the reference area are accessible at any time without an account.

License agreements require that off-campus use of the Libraries' online resources be restricted to Concordia University students, faculty and staff. Concordia University Library Privilege Card holders may request a guest account enabling them to use some online resources at library workstations.

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec offers free access to an array of online resources (free subscription required).

You can also search for Open Access content that is freely available online.

Library Code of Conduct

All persons using the library must respect the Library Code of Conduct. Among other regulations, excessive noise and use of cell phones are not permitted; also, food and drink are not permitted except for water kept in a closed container.
