Virtual Reality Bootcamp workshop resources

Anyone with access to a smartphone can enjoy and create content for virtual reality (VR).

Speakers: Jasia Stuart (Coordinator - Digital Technologies) and Sean Cooney (Technician - Webster Library Technology Sandbox)

Join us for two sessions on using and creating VR content.

Part 1: Introduction to different VR systems with a focus on mobile-based VR (such as Google Cardboard). We will look at a variety of VR content types. From there, we will look at the easiest way to build a VR experience and go right to work. Build your own environment, load models and work with 360 photography. No programming experience required.

Part 2: Optional follow-up session to answer further questions and help you troubleshoot problems you may have run into and share your creation with the group. The Zoom link for this will be shared in the first session.

Cardboard VR headsets will be provided (free) to those who enrol. This workshop is for Concordia students (graduate and undergraduate). This workshops requires a smartphone, and to be able to pick up a cardboard headset from the Webster Library building the week before the workshop. If you have questions, or only meet some of these requirements, please reach out to me to discuss at jasia.stuart@concordia.ca.

3D Modelling 102: OpenSCAD

Tuesday, October 26, 2021
3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of 3D Design with OpenSCAD. This software is free, open-source and easy to get started with.

About this event

Speaker: Sean Cooney, Technology Sandbox Technician, Concordia University Library

Location: Online

So you want to model things in 3D, but you’re unfamiliar with how to do it or the software you’re using doesn’t give you the fine control you need? Come to our workshop. For this session, we are going to focus on building practical structures for lab environments. OpenSCAD is free, open-source software for detailed, programmatically defined, primitive based rendering software. If that sounds complicated, you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy and intuitive the software is once you get started.

No programming experience required (although it doesn't hurt).

Please have OpenSCAD installed on your computer before the session.

Open to everyone. 90 minutes.
