When Pomerleau Construction encloses the main staircase area of the Webster Library to proceed with the renovations planned for Phase 3, the Library will use the outside walls of the staircase enclosure to post directional signage and to display the winning submissions of the Poetry Contest. The winning submissions will also be displayed at the Vanier Library, the Grey Nuns Reading Room, and will be published on the Concordia website.
Above is a rendering of the staircase wraparound designed by University Communication Services to close off the main staircase for Phase 3 construction. The design is very similar to the Phase 1 design – which, as you may know, won the platinum award for best practices in communications and marketing from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District 1 (http://www.caseone.org/).
Student participants are asked to submit an original poem of 100 words or less on the theme of “Library” – quite appropriate under the circumstances! The contest will run until March 14, at which point a jury, under the coordination of Vince Graziano, Reference Librarian, will choose 3 winners. The Poetry Contest will celebrate the official opening of Phase 2 and the start of Phase 3. Participants will be able to submit their poems in either English or French.
