The packing and moving of the books on LB-4 to an offsite storage facility began on December 16 and will continue through the holidays. These steps are in fact the “easy” part. A number of complicated issues had to be addressed in preparing for this move: issuing a public RFP for the moving, storage, and book request service; planning the move in order to maintain our collection in order; establishing the best system to identify and retrieve books from storage; tweaking the catalogue to reflect those changes; and, finally, developing temporary procedures to provide
access to books in storage while creating minimum disruption. Many people were involved in one way or another through this lengthy process, and their efforts are recognized and appreciated. Please note that only the oversize books will not be available to users during this period.
