The history of textiles and computing are connected, with early computers taking innovations from mechanical looms (punch cards). The Sandbox has a knitting machine that can use punch cards to 'program' designs into fabric. If you are curious please drop by to chat with our team!
The space also supports wearable electronics art, see the electronics section to learn about Arduino if you'd like to incorporate LEDs or sensors into textile projects. The Fiber Arts Technology club is a firendly place to learn knitting and crochet, as well as to socialize and work on your existing fiber projects if you are more advanced.
Knitting and crochet kits are available for loan - if you've never done it before you don't have to spend a dime. Borrow the tools and even keep the yarn.
