A message from Dr. Beaudry

Dear Students,

A very warm welcome to the Concordia University Library, which includes the Webster Library, Vanier Library and the Grey Nuns Reading Room.

To support your academic success, we have a team of dedicated librarians and staff who can assist you with a variety of services such as subject-specific research across our comprehensive print and digital collections, use of our interlibrary loans services and many more services, including borrowing a laptop or tablet. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to assist you!

In September 2014, we began the Webster Library Transformation to provide you with a next generation library experience. Phases 1 (LB3) and 2 (LB5) were delivered in 2015-16 and feature beautiful new study spaces in configurations that include group study and collaborative spaces, zero-noise and silent reading rooms, many of which are bathed in natural sunlight.

To celebrate the end of Phase 2, the Concordia Library launched a student Poetry Contest on the theme of Library. Our jury members chose 3 winning submissions and another 4 received an Honorable Mention. You can read them online and in-person by visiting the Webster Library, Vanier Library and Grey Nuns Reading Room.

In response to President Shepard’s invitation, the entire Library team was mobilized to develop the Library’s five-year strategic plan titled Inspiring Success, Strategic Plan 2016/21. We developed twenty goals to continue to transform our services towards a next-generation library, which will have a direct impact on you.

Again this year, Concordia Library wishes to thank the Library Services Fund Committee (LSFC) and its student representatives for their ongoing support. The LSFC was established between the Concordia Student Union and Concordia University for the purpose of providing additional or improved library services at the Webster Library and Vanier Library. Last year, thanks to the generous contributions of Concordia undergraduate students, the LSFC helped fund, among other things, 24-hour access to the Vanier Library and Webster Library, the laptop and tablet loan program, and the acquisition of textbooks and other course materials for both Webster Library and Vanier Library

Finally, I’m pleased to announce that we are in the planning phase for renovations to the Vanier Library. We look forward to consulting with students, faculty and staff to better understand their needs and deliver another outstanding academic library.

If you would like to learn more about our spaces, services and collections, I encourage you to read our 2014-15 Library Annual Report

I always enjoy hearing from you about our activities and how we can help Concordia achieve its mission. Please do not hesitate to contact me at guylaine.beaudry@concordia.ca.

I wish you a most productive fall 2016 term!
