What do I need to know before I start searching?

You have your research question, now what? Before you start searching, it’s best to know how to prepare a search strategy.

definition Search strategy

The means by which you discover sources related to your question. It consists of:

  1. Identifying the main ideas in your question.
  2. For each idea, thinking of keywords and related terms (i.e. search terms).
  3. Combining your search terms using search operators like AND or OR.
