Position description

Concordia University Library aims to make knowledge locally and globally accessible. We have a strong track record of building services to support Concordia’s students and faculty in sharing their research and teaching practices in broad and sustainable ways. The current momentum to make research and education open to the world can make us leaders for positive change.

We are creating the new role of Associate University Librarian, Open Scholarship, to grow the open initiatives established in the Library, and to integrate and operationalize recommendations cited in Concordia’s Open Science Working Group’s report. Now is the time to make the most of the momentum towards openly accessible scholarship. As part of the Library’s senior leadership team, the AUL Open Scholarship reports directly to the University Librarian. They will lead a team focused on technology infrastructure across all Library services and on scholarly communication initiatives, many increasingly dependent on such infrastructure.

  • have a master’s degree from an ALA accredited information science school or an equivalent acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Quebec;
  • have at least seven years of experience in a research-intensive environment, and five years of management experience;
  • may have a non-traditional pathway in your life, or experience in another sector, but still think this is an interesting job for you;

What might your day look like?

You represent the University Librarian at a university-wide IT committee and fully participate in the discussions.

You spend some time strategizing about a new initiative for sharing audiovisual content from our Special Collections & Archives.

You have your regular team meeting, encouraging staff and librarians to share their roses and thorns from the previous week.

You attend an update from SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) on the platformization of research, ready to bring this issue to Library Cabinet at our next meeting.

You participate in a PBUQ (Partenariat des Bibliothèques universitaires du Québec) Shared Service Platform meeting, ensuring Concordia’s participation in the consortium represents our users, and advances our collective goals.

You take a break to go to the gym, eat at a great local resto, or visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (right around the corner from Webster Library) for some inspiration. Or a quick visit to our Tech Sandbox to play with our virtual reality equipment, or the knitting machine.

You meet with other AULs to plan professional development opportunities for library staff.

You have a quick informal chat with a member of your team who needs a bit of advice on a project they are leading.

A salary range of 135-198K, and a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. This is a renewable contract appointment which includes administrative leave, and you may be eligible for a tenured (union-excluded) appointment (this will be determined during the hiring process).
