Position Description

The Teaching & Research Librarian is a member of the Library’s professional team, reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Research & Graduate Studies.

The incumbent provides support for teaching, learning, and research activities in engineering and computer science to enable and facilitate exploration, knowledge creation, and learning. Key areas of engagement include information/digital literacy, research consultations, open scholarship, research data management, and collection development. The incumbent may also be assigned responsibilities related to a functional area in the Library, individually or as part of a team.

The Teaching & Research Librarian contributes substantively to a variety of Library and University strategic initiatives and projects through committees, working groups, and project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of information resources, environments, methods and tools relevant to academic libraries generally, and engineering/computer science specifically.
  • Integrate principles of open scholarship and critical information literacy into professional practice.
  • Advise and collaborate with faculty, students and colleagues on research, digital scholarship, data management, and scholarly outputs.
  • Provide research help and consultations.
  • Develop knowledge of teaching and learning practices in higher education and engineering/computer science.
  • Deliver curricular and co-curricular instruction; co-create learning activities and materials.
  • Participate in collection development and management in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic Library and University initiatives through committee and project work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Professional Expertise

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in library/information studies or equivalent recognized by CPLQ.
  • Expertise with academic library resources, particularly in engineering and computer science.
  • Proven instructional skills for online and in-person environments.
  • Knowledge of critical information literacy and scholarly communication practices.
  • Familiarity with digital scholarship tools and collaboration platforms.
  • Familiarity with collections development concepts and methods in academic libraries.
  • Familiarity with trends, practices and technologies for academic library services.

General Competencies

  • Strong motivation, aptitude and interest to establish student and faculty success as the centre of their professional practice.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, tasks and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, share expertise, work in teams, and negotiate solutions with diverse groups.

  • Proficiency in English required; professional oral French and basic written French preferred.

Salary and Benefits

As of June 1, 2025, the salary for an initial limited term appointment is $71,865.00 per annum. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
