  • Organising post-disaster reconstruction processes : housing reconstruction after the Bam earthquake / Fatemeh Farnaz Arefian

  • Total construction management : lean quality in construction project delivery / John S. Oakland and Marton Marosszeky
    TH 438.2 O35 2017

A convergence of lean management and quality management thinking has taken place in organizations across many industries, including construction. Practices in procurement, design management and construction management are all evolving constantly and understanding these changes and how to react is essential to successful management. This book provides valuable insights for owners, designers and constructors in the construction sector.

Starting by introducing the language of total quality, lean and operational excellence, this book takes the reader right up to the latest industry practice in this sector, and demonstrates the best way to manage change. Written by two of the world's leading experts, Total Construction Management: Lean quality in construction project delivery offers a clearly structured introduction to the most important management concepts and practices used in the global construction industry today.

This authoritative book covers issues such as procurement, BIM, all forms of waste, construction safety, and design and construction management, all explained with international case studies. It is a perfect guide for managers in all parts of the industry, and ideal for those preparing to enter the industry.

  • Advanced energy efficient building envelope systems / Moncef Krarti [and 8 others]
    TH 1715 A38 2017
This monograph presents the latest research developments of innovative building envelope systems. These systems have the ability to allow building structures responsive to changes in outdoor conditions to ensure comfortable indoor environment at higher energy efficiency compared to conventional systems. In particular, the monograph overviews the basic operation principles and thermal performance of four technologies described in three chapters: (i) dynamic insulation materials that can change its thermal properties in order to better adapt the building envelope with its outdoor environment and reduce building heating and cooling thermal loads, (ii) variable reflectance coatings for application on roofs to lower and even eliminate the energy penalties associated with reduced solar heat gains during heating operation of buildings, (iii) single layer breathing walls to recover wasted from heat transmission inside the walls and provide air ventilation to indoor spaces, and (iv) multi-layer living walls to adapt using biomimetric principles and phase-change materials to adapt with the changing outdoor conditions.

  • Construction methods and management / S.W. Nunnally
    TH 145 N86 2011
Construction Methods and Management, 8/e, is designed to guide construction engineers and managers in planning, estimating, and directing construction operations safely and effectively. Comprehensive and up-to-date, the text integrates major construction management topics with an explanation of the methods of heavy/highway and building construction. It incorporates both customary U.S. units and metric (SI) units and is the only text to present concrete formwork design equations and procedures using both measurement systems. This edition features information on the latest developments in soil excavation, asphalt paving, and earthmoving equipment.
