Proxy borrowers

Who can appoint a proxy borrower

Any active Concordia community member, this includes students, faculty and staff, can appoint any individual to act as a proxy to carry out library loans on their behalf. Note that they can only appoint one proxy borrower at a time.

Read the Policy on Appointing Proxy Borrowers to understand the parameters of this service.

Please note that no person is permitted to borrow library material by presenting the personal identification of another person; and no person may authorize the use of their own Concordia University ID card by another person.

How to appoint or extend a proxy borrower

To appoint or extend a proxy borrower, the Concordia community member must complete the following online form after logging in with their Netname and password:

Proxy Borrower Request Form

As well as read the Policy on Appointing Proxy Borrowers

Within 5 business days of the form being submitted the Concordia community member making the request and their appointed proxy will receive an email with instructions. The proxy will need to bring valid personal picture identification to the Loans & Returns desk at Webster Library or the Circulation Desk at Vanier Library so as to be issued a Library Privilege Card. This card is issued solely to enable the appointed proxy borrower to borrow material on behalf of the appointing Concordia community member.

Note: if the appointing Concordia community member has more than one library account, a Proxy Borrower can only be linked to one of those accounts, and subsequently can only pick up hold and ILL requests made by the account linked to the Library Privilege Card they were issued.

What a proxy borrower can do

To do any of the following actions a proxy borrower must go in person to either the Circulation Desk at Vanier Library or Loans & Returns desk at Webster Library during their hours of operation with the Library Privilege Card issued to them and valid personal picture identification; note that proxies cannot use the self-checkout machines:

  • Borrow material
  • Check-out holds and interlibrary loan requests made by the appointing Concordia community member
  • Place holds on material from the Concordia Library collections and the Quebec University Library Partnership
  • Find out what they have borrowed and check due dates (the appointing Concordia community member will be able to access this information in their My Library Account in Sofia)

Note: Proxy borrowers cannot access the proxy account via Sofia.
